One of Japan’s Best Onsen - Magical Japanese Onsen Oasis
Located 200 kilometers north-northwest of Tokyo, Kusatsu Onsen is a small hot spring town nestled in the mountains that offer various natural settings in each of the four seasons. A tourist town with a population of around 7,000, Kusatsu welcomes upwards of three million visitors each year.
The main attraction is the town's spa, which is chosen by the Japan's top travel agents as country's No. 1 hot spring for 15 consecutive years in the 100 Best Hot Springs in Japan! Also, chosen for admission into the Hot Spring Hall of Fame!
Kusatsu Onsen boasts the largest natural output of any hot spring in Japan. The quantity enables all ryokans, hotels, and other hot spring facilities at Kusatsu Onsen to offer genuine “Gensen Kake-ngashi”-never having to recirculate, reheat, or otherwise taint the water.
Kusatsu Onsen is also known for its hot spring water quality. In only ten days, a 6-inch nail left in the hot spring is reduced to a mere skeletal shard.
“Yumomi” is traditional method,in Kusatsu, of cooling down hot spring water to bathing temperature without diluting mineral components of onsen. It has been traditionally carried out with singing and dancing with local folk songs every day.
Stretching out from the Yubatake are many winding roads lined with local shops and gorgeous ryokans.
White land and green moss and leaves make quite a beautiful contrast.
There are onsen rivers and many small ponds.
This, the largest outdoor bath in Kusatsu, is complemented by its rustic atmosphere. The 434m² bath is so large that water temperature variation naturally occurs.
In this facility, tattoos are allowed.
We can enjoy the beautiful lighting of Yubatake and Sai-no-kawara park. We recommend to walk around town!
